That part where Wil Wheaton is mentioned in the book made me smile too :-)

I've heard rumors that Ernest Cline is writing a sequel to Ready Player One and; it's fun to speculate whose voice it might be in and, who might narrate the audio if it's not in Wade's POV :-)dog eared copyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17541260257975870624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141433271501351298.post-70927912242432548852012-03-31T12:58:59.396-07:002012-03-31T12:58:59.396-07:00I would be lying if I said I got all of the refere...I would be lying if I said I got all of the references in the book (I never played Tempest, for instance) so I had to rely on the narrative to pull me through. Because Wade is not actually of the '80s, his character becomes the literary device through which we grasp the cultural references as he explains his research and what he's doing. So, you really don't have to be a gamer to enjoy this book! Knowing about the gaming references beforehand is an added bonus; but the basic structure of the story is solid: a quest, a little romance, friendships, challenges and even social commentary :-)dog eared copyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17541260257975870624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141433271501351298.post-25444192612735924082012-03-31T07:17:41.586-07:002012-03-31T07:17:41.586-07:00I'm looking forward to getting to this book - ...I'm looking forward to getting to this book - and I'm leaning towards listening to it on audio too. It was a year of big change/transitions for me! There was a lot going on; but one thing I remember was going to a David Bowie concert at The Cap Center (WDC): The Serious Moonlight Tour! I went from being a heavy metal head to something of a semi-punk before diving into the underground music scene hardcore! We were still hauling milk crates of record albums around and listening to the radio for the newest stuff. WHFS was an iffy radio station (broadcast signals were weak); but they had amazingly eclectic playlists and equally eccentric DJs. Alas, it's all gone now: The Cap Center (razed), WHFS (eventually purchased and mainstreamed by a mega-corp, DJs replaced) and even the underground scene dissipated into the alternate music scene... But it was all good then :-)dog eared copyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17541260257975870624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8141433271501351298.post-81253298980362228702012-03-27T13:35:19.704-07:002012-03-27T13:35:19.704-07:00I was born in 1983 so the 80s aren't really MY...I was born in 1983 so the 80s aren't really MY era. But I still loved the references I did get and thought the book was wonderful. I am jealous of those readers who are a bit older than me though.Michelle (my books. my life.)https://www.blogger.com/profile/06328587128695633737noreply@blogger.com
